Compass uses a selective process for choosing clients each year, but seeks diversity in clients’ geographic location, issue area and service line. Through a detailed application and interviews with applicant Executive Directors and Board chairs, Compass determines the readiness of each client applicant for a Compass project.
Each year, the Compass client application will be available on the home page in the late spring and early summer. Compass will interview the Executive Directors and Board chairs of all applicants who meet the basic criteria listed above and who submit a completed application by the deadline. Applicants must select one service line as their primary choice. Applicants desiring more than one service line can reapply in future years, but Compass will only work on one type of project at a time. Final decisions about clients depend on the quality of the application and clarity of the stated project goals, a prospective client’s readiness for the project, as well as Compass’ need for service line, geographic and issue area diversity. A committee of Compass Board members and former Compass Project Leaders interviews applicants and makes the final selection in August.
