Blog Post — Dreaming with Renewed Energy by Julie Reiner
Lumina Studio Theatre provides young and adult actors of all levels of experience with opportunities to perform classical plays in a professional setting. This past spring, we engaged a Compass team to help us develop a long-term funding strategy and implementation plan.
Throughout this four-month process, it has been really helpful to see our nonprofit through the eyes of outsiders. Working with our Compass team has helped us dream with renewed energy. The Compass volunteers taught us several marketing approaches that will help us improve our image and fundraising. For instance, we learned new ways that we can use earned income to diversify our funding sources. Additionally, keeping track of all of my weekly tasks made me realize how much our organization could benefit from an office assistant. After Compass’ final presentation at the end of May, my Board of Directors was in awe. The insight Compass provided was invaluable. We cannot wait to begin implementing their recommendations.
The final scene of A Midsummer Night’s Dream captures the magic of Shakespeare and the achievement of a successful Lumina production.
2012 marks Lumina’s 15 year anniversary, and just this past month, we celebrated Lumina’s 100th production! Certainly, we have a lot for which to be grateful for and a lot to look forward to. Overall, the whole Compass experience has been mentally exhausting, eye opening and ultimately wonderful. Reaching out to Compass was the best thing I have done for Lumina. The guidance our Compass team has given us will be instrumental in the next phase of our growth.
